The B.Sc. (Agri.) students of IARI-NEH Umiam, Shillong Hub,
under the aegis of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region were made aware through a workshop on Gender Sensitization
and Equity Awareness. The workshop was organized on 9th March, 2026 by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) unit
of IARI Hub as a part of the celebrations of the international Women’s Day. The workshop aimed to promote awareness
of gender equality, mutual respect, and the importance of maintaining a safe and inclusive academic environment. The
program was conducted in the presence of Dr. B.P. Singh, Director (In-Charge); Dr. Aniruddha Roy, Academic Coordinator;
Dr. N. Raju Singh, Course Coordinator; Dr. Meghna Sharma and Dr. Rumki H. CH. Sangma, Wardens. The session began with a
welcome address by Dr. Tasvina R. Borah, Chairperson of the ICC unit, followed by remarks from the Academic Coordinator
and the Director, who emphasized the importance of gender sensitivity and responsible conduct among students.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Umeshwari Dkhar, Assistant Professor,
National Law University, Meghalaya, who spoke on gender concepts, stereotypes, discrimination, and legal awareness related to harassment.
An interactive session followed, where students engaged with the resource person, ICC members, and the Warden, discussing practical aspects
of gender sensitivity and respectful behavior on campus. Dr. L. Joymati Chanu, Member of the ICC unit offered the vote of thanks and the
programme was successfully coordinated by the members of the ICC unit. The workshop enhanced students’ awareness of gender sensitization
and reinforced the importance of fostering a respectful and inclusive campus environment.
